Practical Training

Oulu University of Applied Sciences is an active matchmaker between students and employers: practical training is included in all our degree programmes and most students write their thesis in conjunction with a company or organisation.

Practical training in the framework of Erasmus+ programme in Oulu

Under the Erasmus+ programme students from participating countries are entitled to an Erasmus+ grant for student and trainee exchange. Incoming students apply for Erasmus+ grants from their own home institutions.

Ask about the possibilities for an Erasmus+ traineeship grant from your own higher education institution. Incoming students find their Erasmus+ traineeships (work placements, internships, practical training) usually independently, see our generic information and advice to search for traineeships.

Incoming Erasmus+ exchange students that are pursuing Erasmus+ studies can search for an Erasmus+ traineeship also during their study period and, if possible, extend their stay for the duration of the practical training. Students can continue as an Erasmus+ trainee directly after their Erasmus+ study period has ended. Oamk LABs can be pursued either as Erasmus+ studies or traineeships, usually as full programmes (30 ECTS cr) and during the official term dates.

For more information on how to arrange your practical training through Oulu University of Applied Sciences, please contact the international co-ordinator of the campus in question.

Oulu UAS' fields in health and social care offer practical training courses to a limited number of students from partner universities during the regular terms. These traineeships are offered either in Oamk LABs (Oulu DevLAB, full programme, 30 ECTS cr) or combined with a workload of 15 ECTS cr (first part of Oulu DevLAB) with other courses from exchange study programmes in health and social care. Health and social care departments offer a practical training course termed O4323ST Advanced Practical Training or equivalent practical training courses, as mentioned in the field-specific exchange study programmes listed in the section of studies in health and social care.

Erasmus+ traineeships in health and social care can be pursued only in special fields of health care (biomedical laboratory sciences, optometry, radiography and radiation therapy, and dental health care) during the regular term dates with the scope of 10 ECTS cr, or combined with practical training in Oamk LABs (Oulu DevLAB) with the workload of 15 ECTS cr or 30 ECTS cr.

Other fields in health and social care (nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social services) offer practical training courses with the scope of 6 ECTS cr during the regular terms, but this does not allow for Erasmus+ traineeships due to the workload requirements set by the Erasmus+ mobility programme (min 10 ECTS cr, or 2 months). It can be combined with practical training in Oamk LABs (Oulu DevLAB) with the workload of 15 ECTS cr or 30 ECTS cr, and then also Erasmus+ traineeship requirements are met.

Traineeships in health and social care must be applied to according to the application process and deadlines, for autumn by 30 April, and for spring by 30 September.
