In Finland, universities of applied sciences can use discretion in their admission procedures if the skills and knowledge of an ineligible applicant are sufficient.
Oulu University of Applied Sciences uses discretionary admission in the English Bachelor’s degree programmes in International Business and Information Technology.
Discretionary admission is applied to:
Non-EU / EEA applicants graduating in the spring of the year of application. This means that these applicants can apply even if their upper secondary school diploma is not finished by the end of the application period.
If an applicant to Oulu UAS wishes to be taken into consideration in discretionary admission he/she must provide an official statement of the upcoming graduation from the school he/she is about to graduate. The statement must be stamped, signed and sent to Oulu UAS by the deadline of the attachments. Also English, Swedish or Finnish translation of the statement must be provided, if it is not written in one of these languages. The final diploma must be received and a copy of it delivered to the Admission Services by the 14 July 2017 at 3 p.m. Finnish time.
All selected students, Finnish and international, must bring their original documents to be verified by the Admission Services on the first day of their studies.
