Applicant’s Checklist
- Read the instructions in the Guide for Applicants 2012 carefully.
- Please check out the IELTS/TOEFL language test venues and dates and register to the test. Take the test well in time before the application deadline (www.ielts.org or www.ets.org/toefl). It may take several weeks until you get the results. Applicants for the Degree Programme in International Business who are not citizens of EU/EEA-countries have to demonstrate their English language skills in advance.
- If you are an applicant for the Degree Programme in International Business, please print out the entrance examination’s reading material from the internet and prepare yourself for the entrance exam.
- Fill in the online application by 14 February 2012 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. Finnish time. Print a copy of the application form for yourself for future reference. Send a copy of it together with copies of your original certificates and their authorised translations in English, Finnish or Swedish to the university of applied sciences’ Admissions Office of your first choice by 24 February 2012 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. If you are required to take an English language test (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL etc.), please attach a signed copy of your test score report to the other documents. However, TOEFL score results are only accepted directly from the Educational Testing Service. The TOEFL code of Oulu UAS is 0530. Also copies of certificates demonstrating sufficient English language skills on the basis of education completed in English in certain countries must be attached to the documents. The language certificates must be delivered to the admissions office by 24 February 2012 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. You will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your application.
If you use a paper application form, fill in, date and sign the application form and send it together with copies of your original certificates and their authorised translations in English, Finnish or Swedish to the university of applied sciences’ Admissions Office of your first choice by 14 February 2012 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. If you are required to take an English language test (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL etc.), please attach a signed copy of your test score report to the other documents. Applications that have been submitted through intermediary education services will not be accepted. The attachments of the paper application must arrive at the first choice university of applied sciences by 24 February 2012 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time at the latest.
- All applicants who have submitted their applications with adequate certificates by the set deadlines and meet the admission and language skills requirements will be invited to take the entrance examination in Finland. They will receive a personal invitation letter with detailed instructions in a few weeks. Applicants who have not been accepted to take the entrance examination will have a separate notification letter or they can check the status of their application from the Admissions Office.
- Exceptional entrance examination arrangements abroad or due to disability have to be agreed upon with the Admissions Office.
- After having received the invitation letter to take the entrance examination in Finland, international applicants should apply for a Finnish visa without delay. A visa is not required if applicant’s home country has signed a visa exemption treaty with Finland.
- Applicants who have been invited to the entrance examination in Finland, should make their travel and accommodation reservations in good time.
- Entrance examinations will be held in April 2012. Applicants have to bring their passports/ID cards that they used in the application procedure with them to the entrance examinations for checking.
- After the entrance examination some international applicants may have to return to their home country and have to apply for the residence permit for Finland, in case they will be admitted to study in Finland.
- The admitted students will receive a personal notification of admission in the beginning of June 2012.
The results will be announced by 19 July 2011 at the latest. Applicants who have not been admitted or have been put to reserve places will have a notification letter of their application status. They can also check the selection results from the Admissions Office.
- The selected international students have to apply for the residence permit for Finland in cases where it is required. A student who is not an EU/EEA citizen must have health insurance cover when applying for a residence permit. It is recommended that the students apply for the residence permit by the 15 June 2012 or as soon as they receive the notification of admission in order to be able to commence the studies in August.
- The selected students have to send a confirmation in writing to the Admissions Office and enrol as present by 31 July 2012 or within other given time limit.
- If an international student is required to demonstrate his/her own funds for supporting his/her living and studying in Finland, a guarantee money of 6,000 EUR/academic year or a scholarship must be deposited in a Finnish bank account under the name of the student.
Finnish students may apply for students' financial aid.
- All selected students have to make their own student accommodation arrangements either on the private housing market or in the halls of residence. Oulu University of Applied Sciences is not able to offer accommodation.
- All selected students who have confirmed their study place have to bring their original school/degree certificates to Oulu University of Applied Sciences before the beginning of studies. The selection is not final until the originals have been checked.
The academic year begins at the end of August 2012.
