A transfer student is considered to be a degree student who is enrolled and has a right to study at a Finnish University of Applied Sciences and is applying for a transfer from his/her current degree programme to an equivalent degree programme in another Finnish university of applied sciences. The right to transfer also applies to students in adult education degree programmes, degree programmes instructed in a foreign language and Master's programmes. University students cannot be accepted as transfer students and neither can students at universities of applied sciences in other countries. However, degree students of Oulu University of Applied Sciences' international partner institutions applying for a right to study for a double/joint degree in accordance with the agreement on double/joint degrees established between Oulu Unversity of Applied Sciences and the partner institution are considered to be transfer students.
A student can transfer to another university of applied sciences only to take the same degree in the same degree programme and the same option in the Degree Programme in Nursing.
The prescribed duration of studies of a transfer student has begun when he/she has accepted the study place and enrolled as present for the first time in his/her previous university of applied sciences. The receiving university of applied sciences verifies the number of terms the student has enrolled as present and absent. The transfer student transfers his/her right to study to his/her new university of applied sciences, whereupon he/she must resign from the previous university of applied sciences. After being informed of admittance to the new university of applied sciences, the student must present a notice of resignation from the previous university of applied sciences by a set date. However, this does not apply to the double/joint degree students who preserve their right to study at their home institution.
A prerequisite for acceptance as a transfer student is that the applicant has been enrolled as present at his/her previous university of applied sciences for at least one year. The receiving university of applied sciences may require that the applicant has accumulated a certain number of study attainments at his/her previous university of applied sciences.
All applicants for a transfer must be treated equally and consistent selection principles must be applied. The selection principles are decided by the university of applied sciences in question. Acceptance for a transfer is always at the discretion of the university of applied sciences.
A student can apply for a transfer to another degree programme in the same field of study at his/her university of applied sciences only if the admission criteria and entrance examination have been similar for both degree programmes. Transferring to another field of study requires following the normal application procedure. If a student wishes to transfer from an adult education degree programme to a youth education degree programme or vice versa, the transfer procedure is not necessary. In these cases the matter can be dealt with by revising the personal study plan to meet the changed needs of the student.
