The aim of the Bachelor's thesis is to enhance and demonstrate the ability of students to apply their knowledge and skills in practical expert duties related to their professional studies.
The aim of the Master's thesis is to enhance and demonstrate the ability of students to apply research knowledge and use selected methods for distinguishing and solving problems of working life as well as the ability to perform independent demanding expert tasks.
To demonstrate his/her acquaintance in his/her field of study as well as his/her competence in the Finnish or Swedish language, the student is required to take a written maturity test in the field of his/her thesis. The maturity test can be taken once the Bachelor's thesis has been approved.
The above instructions describe the characteristics of Bachelor’s theses written at Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The instructions may be supplemented with material specific to different degree programmes. Separate instructions for Master’s theses will be prepared at the individual schools.
From 1.8.2010 Bachelor’s theses will be primarily published in Theseus - The Electronic Library of Universities of Applied Sciences. If they so wish, students can also choose to publish their theses on the Oulu University of Applied Sciences Intranet. Due to their publication online, bound copies of Bachelor’s theses for use by the University of Applied Sciences are no longer needed.
If students wish to have their theses printed for their own use, they may do so at a bookbindery of their choice and at their own expense. The bookbindery is able to ask the instructions of binding.
Bachelor’s theses written at Oulu University of Applied Sciences were bound until 31.7.2010. They are available for reading in the libraries of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The subjects, authors and summaries of the theses can also be found in the library catalogue Leevi. Bachelor’s theses completed after the above date have been published in Theseus or on the Oulu University of Applied Sciences Intranet. Theseus also contains Bachelor’s theses written at other universities of applied sciences.
Thesis is the national thesis competition arranged by universities of applied sciences. Abstracts of all the theses that have participated in the competition are available for reading online.
