The students of Oulu University of Applied Sciences who are studying in the programmes leading to a degree can take courses in the national Asian Studies Programme online.
The Asian Studies Programme (25–31 credits) is an interdisciplinary study programme, which offers students solid basic knowledge of East and Southeast Asia. . The programme also includes a course on India (India in the World Politics).
The programme consists of five courses. The languages of instruction are Finnish and English (course A) and English (courses B, C, D & E). The programme can be taken as a 31-credit minor subject, or in smaller course entities.
The Asian Studies Programme begins in the Spring term 2011 with courses A and B and continues in the Autumn term 2011 with courses C, D and E. The Programme will be carried out as distance teaching through the Internet. The Programme includes web courses and essays and other online materials. The students can follow the Asian Programme lectures through a computer during the course at any time that is suitable for them. All studies will be arranged in Moodle learning environment.

All degree students who hold a valid study right in any Finnish university or university of applied science are eligible to apply. The Programme is not recommended for first year students.
The application period for the Asian Studies Programme of 2011 is from 18 October to 14 November 2010. You can either apply for the whole programme of 31 credits or for the individual courses beginning in January 2011. Discuss with the Head of your Degree Programme about the possibility of participation and inclusion of Asian studies into your degree. You have to get permission to take part in the Asian Studies Programme, before you apply for the courses. The School of Oulu University of Applied Sciences where you are enrolled pays the participation fees to the University of Turku which is co-ordinating the Asian Studies Programme. No tuition fees will be charged from students. Even if a student does not complete the courses, his/her school has to pay the fees to the co-ordinating university. Therefore students must keep in mind, that an accepted application means binding participation!
All students of universities of applied sciences need to submit a statement on acceptance (puoltokirje) from their own School in which the School endorses the student's studies in the Asian Programme.
Students of universities of applied sciences who have studied in the Asian Programme in the previous years are also required to submit a new the statement on acceptance for the year 2011.
Please print out a model for the statement on acceptance that will be available in the Moodle learning environment on the website of the network, fill it in and send it signed by the end of the application period (postal mark) to:
