The Raahe School of Engineering and Business (Raahe Campus) is a school of Oulu University of Applied Sciences based in Raahe. The Raahe Campus has two departments, the Department of Technology and the Department of Business Studies. Since its establishment (over 30 years ago) the School has become respected for its excellence in producing engineers and technicians. These graduates are capable of meeting today's demands in the ever-growing computer technology sector of the business world. The School is situated in Raahe, 75 kilometres southwest of Oulu and 600 kilometres north of the capital of Finland, Helsinki. Raahe is an old seafaring town with a beautiful shore and many islands. Its main industries are steel and the rapidly growing high technology industry. Raahe has about 23,000 inhabitants and long traditions as an educational town offering a high level of education through its many schools: Raahe Business College, Lybecker Institute of Arts and Handicraft, Design, Raahe Vocational School, The Vocational Adult Education Centre of Raahe, The Raahe Unit of the University of Oulu. On arrival students will be greeted by modern and traditional architecture successfully combined to build a welcoming campus area. The computer classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest technology. The "Brain Center" building of the campus offers students a modern library with on-line services, a Student Affairs Office and a quaint café/restaurant. The oldest buildings are protected because of their historical value. Recreational facilities can be found on campus.
The following numeric assessment is in general use at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Raahe School of Engineering and Business.
Some of the optional courses are assessed as pass or fail. Students will be notified separately if this assessment is used. Unless otherwise stated, the above numeric assessment is used.
The Finnish credit system has been updated to comply with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) so that the Finnish credits are equivalent to the ECTS credits. Higher education studies are measured in credits (cr). Courses and study modules are credited according to the amount of work they require to attain the required objectives. A student's average study effort of 1,600 hours required for the completion of studies during one academic year corresponds to 60 credits.
At the beginning of each academic year students must complete an Enrolment form and return it to the student affairs office of the School.
Raahe School of Engineering and Business has about over 700 students, of which most are full time students. Some of the students are part time students and they study during weekends and evenings. There are about 70 staff members in Raahe School of Engineering and Business working as teachers or in the laboratories or administration of the School.
