Oulu University of Applied Sciences' students have excellent possibilities to complete parts of their studies at foreign partner institutions. After your first study year you can apply for studies or practical training abroad. An international exchange period offers experiences and new skills from the world and of course a nice amendment to your CV.
Why should you study abroad?
By studying abroad you can diversify your learning experience learn from teachers and students with various cultural backgrounds in a new cultural setting, gain cosmopolitan experience by living in a foreign locale and make friends from all over the world, improve your employability by gaining international experience, learn languages by experiencing daily life and getting to know different habits and traditions. In short, studying abroad challenges you to become independent and boosts your self esteem.
Depending on your field of study, student and trainee exchange opportunities exist almost all around the world. The majority of the exchanges are geared towards the European countries but co-operation agreements have been signed with Asian, African and North American partners as well.
Apply before February 28
A successful exchange period requires thorough advance planning. Therefore you should start the preparations at least six months before the planned exchange: the studies have to be planned with the co-ordinators at Oulu University of Applied Sciences and future host institution, accommodation must be arranged, you should reserve time to acquaint yourself with the culture of the host country, and so on. The application period for student exchanges during the following academic year is from 15 January to 28 February every year. Possible vacant or cancelled study opportunities can be filled also outside this application period. Ask your international co-ordinator for details concerning the application procedure.
Internationalise yourself at home
You can internationalise yourself in Finland as well and in the daily life of your school. Get in contact with foreign exchange students, be their peer tutor, take part in the activities of students' Club Kultturally, study modules taught in different languages and lectures given by visiting lecturers. You can also participate in the international seminars and conferences arranged by your school.

Studying abroad in numbers:
In 2006 there were 310 outgoing students at Oulu University of Applied Sciences who went to study abroad with an exchange programme or participated in trainee periods in different countries. Correspondingly there were 264 incoming students.
