Rapid prototyping means the manufacturing of objects directly from computer models. The technology we currently use is FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling), in which objects are manufactured bottom-up by adding a layer after layer of plastic filament in a welding-like process. The object in the picture – a rack for the motor-drive mechanism of a motorcycle complete with the motor-drive mechanism – was manufactured with FDM.
We provide rapid prototyping services also in cooperation with the service centre for medical ICT applications if the material is plastic, bronze or steel, we cooperate with the Oulu PMC cooperative kanssa.
Small batches of plastic objects can be manufactured in the School by vacuum casting in silicone moulds or by die-casting.
