Development work is innovative and practical, and it focuses on creating new products, production processes and systems or improving existing ones.
In Finland, basic research is mainly carried out in universities. Basic research creates and tests new hypotheses, theories and conformities to existing laws. In the universities of applied sciences, basic research is usually scientific research carried out by the staff.
