Student housing in good order

Students are satisfied with their homes in Oulu. They think student apartments are of good quality.

After nearly three months' stay Hungarians Csaba and Bernadett Dobo are content with living in a student accommodation in Välkkylä. Their apartment is owned by PSOAS , which is the Student Housing Foundation operating in Oulu.

Csaba is studying IT and library as an exchange student in Oulu UAS and Bernadett is an English teacher and working in Finland as a kindergarten teacher. The couple is satisfied that their apartment is situated near to the Csaba's school and Bernadett's work as well as the city centre and grocery store. They think their apartment is in very good condition.

More than empty

In the beginning a surprise for Csaba and Bernadett was that there was pretty much nothing in the apartment. Not even a lamp in the ceiling. They got all the furniture from their friends. Csaba and Bernadett have been satisfied with the co-operation with PSOAS. They say it was really handy to use the foundations fault reporting system on internet when they noticed that their cupboard was broken.

- Well, it took about a month that they came to fix it, but they did come eventually, the couple laughs.

Nice price

They think that the rent of their apartment is reasonable compared to the normal level of rents in Oulu. Csaba and Bernadett say that they feel safe in the apartment just like in general in Oulu. And even if there has been minus degrees outside, it has been warm in the apartment.

- We even had to turn the heating down a bit.

Clean and empty

Roommates Monika Vrlikova from Slovakia and Martina Hudeckova from Czech say that in their apartment in Alppila it could be a bit warmer sometimes. Though PSOAS has checked the temperature and they said it is good. Girls have rooms in a 3-room shared apartment.

Monika and Martina study as an exchange student in the School of Business and Information Management. At the beginning they felt a bit alone to live in Alppila because many of their friends live in Otokylä, which is located in another district. But the apartment it self is good in their opinion and the rooms are really nice and big. Everything was clean and empty when we arrived.

- We got our furniture the same day we moved here. We are renting them from PSOAS. The school gave us all the kitchen equipment, sheets and things like that for loan, Monika and Martina say.

Safe and without a sound

With PSOAS Monika and Martina have had no problems. Everything has been taken care of and in good English. Girls feel really safe in the apartment.

- Sometimes it feels there is no one in this building, usually there is no noise or any movement at all, Monika laughs.
