Movie premiers, soft seats and the taste of popcorn

Movie-goers have ample choice in Oulu. There are three movie theatres with a variety of programs from world premiers to art house films.

You can now enjoy 3D-movies in movie theatre Star along with classic popcorn.

Movie theatre Star has atmosphere

For some of the citizens of Oulu, Star is the only proper movie theatre. A family run company, Star has been showing films since 1982 in Tuira on Kalliotie. Star has a faithful clientele, whose wishes are happily listened to and taken into account.

The film selection of Star is primarily big screen productions, but they also show some productions for small screen as well. They show 10-14 films a week.

Now you can also experience the wonders of 3D-movies at Star.

Students are offered a special deal in Star:: with a valid student card you can receive a one euro discount from the ticket price.

You can see movies at Plaza from morning to night.

The pride of Finnkino, the newest multiplex of Oulu was opened in the city centre in November 2006.

The seating in Finnkino Plaza is very good. The halls have tiered stadium seating to ensure that everyone has an equally good view. The soft seats and ample leg room add to the comfort. The largest screen in Finnkino Plaza is an amazing 142.5 square meters.

All the auditoriums of Finnkino Plaza are equipped with the newest sound and picture systems.

Based on AS2, the newest presentation technology, the quality of the sound and image has been maximized by for instance placing the speakers above the screen rather than behind. In this way the sound will be undistorted and clear. In addition, with the use of nonporous screens the image quality is better now than before.

There is a great variety of films to choose from in the 8 auditorium multiplex. In Finnkino Plaza you can see European distribution screeners and even world premiers. All in all Plaza has seating for about 1200 film goers.

Films from the Movie Centre (elokuvakeskus) at Studio

If you wish to see more than just American films, Studio is the perfect choice for you.

At the youth and cultural centre, also known as Valve, productions are offered by the Oulu movie centre. In the small movie theatre art house productions are also shown.

At Studio you can see films on opening night, as well as classics. Thanks to different festivals and film weeks, the selection is very diverse.

The price of tickets is quite cheap, 6-7 euros gets you to see a film, while a seasonal ticket is even cheaper. During film weeks, a movie ticket may cost only a few euros.
