Universal Borrowing

Universal Borrowing (UB) is a service in Leevi online catalogue which enables the customers to order themselves books from Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Library, Oulu University Library and the National Repository Library (NRL) in Kuopio free of charge.

The customer makes the UB order himself/herself in Leevi online catalogue, see
Leevi-help for instructions. In connection with the order the customer information will temporarily be transferred to the Kajaani UAS Library, the Oulu University Library or the NRL database.

It is possible to order only books that have the status Not charged. Books that have the status Charged cannot be reserved. A customer who has lost the borrowing rights of the Oulu UAS library cannot make UB requests.

Arrived UB loans can be picked up at that library unit of Oulu UAS which the customer has chosen to be the pick-up-at location. UB loans can be returned to any library unit of Oulu UAS. The customer may have the maximum of 20 UB books at the time. The customer is responsible for renewing the loans himself/herself via Leevi online catalogue. The library staff cannot renew the UB loans.

As soon as the books are available for pickup the customer will receive a notice by e-mail. The borrowing rights of UB loans are lost if one or more UB loans are not returned. The lost borrowing rights of Kajaani UAS Library, Oulu University Library and NRL does not effect the borrowing rights of the Oulu UAS library.

UB loans from Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Library:

Estimated delivery time: over a week
Loan periods: course books and theses 14 days, loan collection 28 days
Periodicals cannot be ordered
Loans can be renewed
The customer will not receive any due date reminder before the due date
The customer will receive three notices of overdue loans, after which an invoice will be sent

UB loans from Oulu University Library:

Estimated delivery time: a week
Books and theses with the loan period of 28 days can be ordered
Textbooks and periodicals cannot be ordered
Loans can be renewed three times
A due date reminder will be sent before the due date
Loans must be renewed or returned on the due date at the latest
Borrowing rights will be lost the day after the due date if the loans have not been renewed or returned in time

UB loans from the National Repository Library (NRL):

Estimated delivery time: 1-3 days
Loan periods: printed material 35 days, LP albums 35 days and books in Braille 70 days
Periodicals cannot be ordered
Loans can be renewed 10 times maximum
The customer will not receive any due date reminder before the due date
An overdue notice will be sent two weeks after the due date
