The School of Music, Dance and Media is a youthful, visible and audible part of Oulu University of Applied Sciences.
The Degree Programmes in Music and Dance Teacher Education started on 1.8.1999 and the Degree Programme in Communication in autumn 2000.
In autumn 2008 the school had 500 enrolled students and nearly 50 full-time staff members.
The School of Music, Dance and Media has new and up-to-date facilities in a joint campus with the School of Engineering, in the Kaukovainio district in the City of Oulu.
The well-motivated students and highly skilled staff of the School of Music, Dance and Media enhance the art and cultural life in Northern Finland with their diversified offering of events.
The annual cultural offering includes for example concerts, group and solo dance performances and the Showtime event produced by communication students.
The School of Music, Dance and Media organizes education and lively research and development activity which both respects traditions and boldly seizes the challenges of today in the fields of music, dance teaching and communication.
The school fulfils an important educational role in the region: it is the only institute of higher education in Northern Finland that educates music pedagogues, musicians and church musicians.
