Prerequisites | No prerequisites needed. |
Objectives | The student gains basic knowledge of blood diseases, changes in haemostasis and aspirates. The student deepens his/her knowledge about methods used in haematology research, and demonstrates ability to assess the quality of haematological investigations. The student familiarizes him/herself with the blood group systems, blood transfusion, the use of blood products and the safety rules concerning blood transfusion. The student has knowledge of blood banking, the principles of investigations and reliability issues. |
Content | Erythrocyte diseases; leucocytes benign disorders; malignant blood diseases; changes in haemostasis. Haematological products; staining and quality assessment. Assessment of blood smear. Bone marrow specimen. Aspirate cells. The blood group systems; blood products and the use of them; complications of blood transfusion; blood transfusion safety and quality systems. Rules and statutory orders concerning blood banking. Transfusion service in Finland. |
