7E00BR49 Practical Training in Intensive Care (6 cr)
Prerequisites The student has passed the course Advanced competencies in acute nursing or has gained the corresponding knowledge. Pass on five exams in medication dosage calculation.
Objectives The student has knowledge of intensive care as a part of a chain of care. The student demonstrates ability to assess the intensive care needs of a patient and changes in basic vital functions. The student is able to use the monitoring and patient-care equipments in the intensive care unit, give intensive care assistance, meet and assist critically ill patients and their next of kin. The student participates in decision making concerning patient care, justifies his/her suggestions and actions, and implements nursing care recording. The student has knowledge of medicines and their actions. The student demonstrates skills in making a plan of patient transportation to some other health care facility and giving a patient care report to the receiving health care facility. The student familiarizes him/herself with the management and leadership practices of the placement.
