Objectives | The student understands the individuality and stage of life of a client of advanced age, as well as the impact of aging on his/her well-being. The student learns to assess and promote the client¿s health and functional ability also in emergency situations. He/she learns methods used in preventive nursing care and recovery promotion. The student knows the multiprofessional care and service system provided for persons at advanced age. He/she learns to recognise the needs of close relatives and hence counsel them. |
Content | Persons at advanced age, and changes associated with aging. Health and functional ability of persons at advanced age: resource-based planning of care for a data system. Prevention and recovery promotion-directed approach to work and methods with a focus on nutrition, accidents caused by falling over, motion and medication. Nursing care of elderly persons with memory disorders and early signs of dementia. Technology in the nursing care of persons at advanced age. Close relatives and organisations supporting the well-being of persons at advanced age. Emergency situations in elderly care. |
