Research or operational development task

Thesis work is a research or operational development task in which the knowledge and skills acquired in basic and vocational studies are applied. Thesis work can be, for example, a design, product development, investigation, or evaluation task, or a functional whole that improves the student's ability to work in practical expert tasks. The work also makes use of researched data and applies functioning work and research methods. In the universities of applied sciences, the thesis work is a unit of 15 study points, which corresponds to about 10 weeks of work.

Ordering of thesis work

The school offers modern equipment and methods for even the most demanding work. Our professional staff guides and supports the student to achieve the objectives set for the thesis work. For working life, the student doing his or her thesis work is both a good labour resource and an employee who brings new knowledge in the field into the company.

This year, about one hundred thesis works will be carried out at Raahe School of Engineering and Business. Students either choose the subject matter of their thesis work on their own or the industry and commerce and other cooperating parties order the work from the University of Applied Sciences.

A written document is always drafted concerning the thesis work. Previous thesis works can be studied in the school's library and in the library's Leevi collection database..

The Pehr Brahe Foundation grants scholarships to students for the thesis work.
