Student association
Association of Oulu Polytechnic’s Students - OSAKO is a service organisation common to all students
of Oulu Polytechnic. It supervises the interests of Oulu Polytechnic’s students. The aim of OSAKO is to
work for students on students’ conditions.
OSAKO defends and supervises students’ educational, financial and social benefits and rights in many
work groups and organisations. OSAKO gives also counselling and advice in educational and social
matters. OSAKO offers a reasonable amount of local, regional and national benefits in co-operation
with local companies and SAMOK - the Union of Finnish Polytechnic Students.
These student benefits are available also to international students when they join the student
association and obtain SAMOK’s student card. The membership fee varies from ca. 17—23 euro per
academic year. When paying the membership fee you will get an academic year or a term sticker on
your student card. The card is valid only if it has an appropriate academic year or term sticker.
More information on joining the student association is available during the orientation programme for
international students and on OSAKO’s webpages. OSAKO offers also physical exercise services to
students and staff of Oulu Polytechnic. You can use these services by obtaining OSAKO’s Exercise
Pass. More information on the physical exercise services is available on
OSAKO’s webpages.
International Club of Oulu Polytechnic
The International Club of Oulu Polytechnic operates in subordination of OSAKO. Members of the International
Club are international and Finnish students who want to learn and spend time together whilst
having fun. The main aim of the Club is to make international students’ stay at Oulu Polytechnic as
pleasant and satisfying as possible and acquaint them with and integrate them into the Finnish
society and culture as well as into the studying environment at Oulu Polytechnic.
The Club arranges different kinds of free time activities which include e.g. a culture evening/sauna
party usually once a month, trips in and around Oulu and elsewhere, cooking evenings etc. If there is
something you would like the Club to organise, feel free to tell it. You can be an active member of the
Club!
International Club of Oulu Polytechnic informs its members about coming events mainly by its e-mail
list. For more information on the Club and how to join the mailing list of the International Club, please
