Students from the partner universities of Oulu University of Applied Sciences can apply for a student or trainee exchange period, that is for studies or placements.
If you study at a higher education institution that is not our partner university, you can apply for a visiting/free-mover student status (notice, however, that such studies may be chargeable according to the Open University Studies fees).
Students applying for studies or internships are required to have a suitable study background and a minimum of approx. 1,5 years' studies at their home university before entering the courses or project works etc. at an undergraduate level. In addition, the applicants should have sufficient English language skills (at least B1, preferably B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference
for Languages). Eligibility criteria for professional specialisation studies are mentioned separately (see below).
Before submitting your application according to the instructions below (ESA system) you should first contact the international/study abroad office of your own university to get an approval for your study/practical training abroad period at Oulu UAS.
Applications for study abroad or practical training periods have to be submitted online through the Exchange Student Application System (ESA) by the following deadlines: for the spring term by the 31st of October, and for the autumn term by the 31st of May.

Please prepare all the documents or the respective text in advance, and make your choice of courses etc. in the Learning Agreement according to the list of study possibilities in English.
The implementation of courses etc. depends on the amount of interested students. Applicants can choose studies from different fields, but some of the courses may overlap regarding the schedule.
If you are interested to do a larger project work, please mention this in your application, that is in your Cover Letter and Learning Agreement, and provide more detailed information about yourself and the area(s) of interest etc.
The international coordinator of the School of Engineering (Oulu Campus) will then assess your application online and get in touch with you by e-mail about concrete possibilities of pursuing studies or doing an internship at Oulu UAS and further administrative proceedings. For example, it may be necessary or advisable to submit also a Transcript of Records or Reference Letter etc.
Once everything is settled, the international coordinator of the School of Engineering (Oulu Campus) will send your online Learning Agreement (in duplicate) and Application for Accommodation signed and stamped as a paper version by mail to your international coordinator in order to finalise the administrative process.
After this your international coordinator will ask you to sign the Learning Agreement and Application for Accommodation and then send an the respective documents to the international coordinator of the School of Engineering (Oulu Campus).
Students wishing to apply for the Business Engineering professional specialisation studies must apply also separately, that is in addition to the above-mentioned ESA system. Detailed instructions for the application can be found on the websites of the studies:
The academic year of Oulu University of Applied Sciences runs from the beginning of September to the end of May. The autumn term starts in the beginninmg of September and ends just before Christmas. The spring term usually starts in the beginning of January and is finished in the very end of April.
For a smooth start to your studies it is recommended to arrive before the beginning of the term. The orientation programme for exchange and degree students takes place during the first week of each term.
