The aim of the Degree Programme in Civil Engineering is to educate professionals in civil and environmental engineering for local, national as well as international construction industry. All teaching is practically oriented, providing students with skills needed in working life. Studies common to all students include basics of civil engineering and subjects such as mathematics, information technology as well as languages and communication. Students decide their option and specialisation after their first year of study. Graduates of this degree programme work in fields of design, management, research & development as well as sales and marketing. The extensive education scheme lends itself to students with different inclinations from mathematics experts to sales specialists.

In the Option of House Building Engineering the students are prepared to work in versatile positions of design, control, supervision and inspection work in the field of building construction both in new house building and renovation. The optional studies are oriented to, e.g., construction design, production design, building cost budgeting or construction project design.

The Option of Municipal Engineering provides the students with the qualifications to work in research, planning and implementation duties in road and transport projects and in research, planning and implementation duties in water supply, hydraulic engineering and water and environment related projects. Additionally, the students become familiar with land use planning, landscape and environmental building as well as with assessing environmental impacts.

The Degree Programme in Civil Engineering is actively involved in different international projects in order to ensure that the education remains closely in line with the international construction trends. Good connections to different partner universities abroad offer students varied possibilities to study and work abroad. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. However, due to the increased international cooperation, there are also specifically tailored project and study possibilities in English for international students.
