Study description

The studies are constructed as modules that allow students to earn a total of 30 ECTS credits. The modules are divided into two basic focus areas: multimedia and Internet environment. Furthermore, the curriculum includes a project work based on students’ own interests as well as practical and theoretical base provided in class. Each module will be graded according to the European Credit System (A–F).

Internet environment

Databases with PHP

3 ECTS

Basics of relational database design (garthering requirements, table design and normalisation), SQL programming, introduction to popular RDMBS (MySQL, SQL server and Oracle). Creating dynamicWeb sites using PHP and MySQL.

PHP Programming

3 ECTS

The fundamentals of programming in PHP and Web-related issues. Creating own custom functions and working effectively with function's in PHP. Topics possibly included: XML, databases, networking.

Mobile Application Development by Flash Lite 2

3 ECTS

Introduction of the Flash Lite player and basic differences between mobile specific issues and the desktop Flash player on a PC. Development of the user interface by Flash Lite. Controlling the visual objects with ActionScript 2 and building of a mobile game. Producing and testing of own mobile applications using Flash Lite with an emulator and the Symbian S60 phone.

User Interface Design

3 ECTS

Basic principles of the user interface design, meaning of the words utility and usability when designing the interface. The course focuses on a mobile device - human interface, and is realized as a team work.

XML

3 ECTS

The syntax of XML (Extensible Markup Language), introduction to the method (how to store and transport data). The purpose of DTD (Document Type Definition) and W3C supported XML Schema when defining the structure of an XML document. XML Namespace as a provider for a method to avoid element name conflicts. The use of XSLT (eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) to transform XML into HTML. Creating an XML exercise work.

Multimedia

Photography and Image Manipulation

3 ECTS

The basics of image techniques, the popular software tools, use of a digital camera, methods of archiving the images, photos in documents and in WWW.

Video Shooting and Editing

3 ECTS

Screenwriting, basics of video techniques equipment, camera, shooting and editing, production of a short film.

DVD/CD-ROM Interactive Media

3 ECTS

Basics of multimedia techniques, cd-rom/dvd publishing, mobile multimedia, interactive television and video techniques, process in multimedia project, multimedia equipments, picture-, audio- and video file processing.

PROJECT WORK

6 ECTS

A documented project work. The project could be e. g. a production of multifunctional website/CD/DVD, mobile application, video programme (an individual project or a group work).
