Student survey shows that Oamk's students are mainly satisfied with their studies

The annual student survey in Oamk received a record high response this year: 38% of bachelor's degree students responded to it. Last year's response rate increased by 10 percentage points among those taking a bachelor degree. There were a total of 2,788 respondents, of which 2,633 bachelor's degree students and 155 master's degree students (a response rate of 22). Bachelor's degree students were mainly satisfied with their studies when considering their responses to claims on the scale. Master's degree students gave even more positive reviews in each theme.

In the student survey, Oamk tried to find out students views on community spirit, working life orientation in education, progress and implementation of studies, distance learning and satisfaction with studies. Students evaluated different statements in every theme. The scale was from 1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree). In addition, students had the opportunity to give open feedback on each theme. 

Both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree students thought that community spirit was good. The average of all responses in this theme was 3,4 with bachelor’s degree students and 3,7 with master’s degree students. 

The average of all responses in the theme Working-life orientation in education was 3 with bachelor’s degree students and 3,2 with master’s degree students. 85 % of bachelor’s degree students estimated that they will be employed in their field after graduation. 

In the theme Progress and implementation 71 % of bachelor’s degree students thought that in their degree program, teaching methods and working methods are up-to-date.  

54 % of bachelor’s degree students thought that their mental resilience during the corona pandemic compared with the situation before the pandemic has become weaker. The number with master’s degree students was 29 %. 

56 % bachelor’s degree students estimated that the level of teaching has become weaker in distance learning. 16 % of master’s degree students thought the same. 70 % of master’s degree students estimated that the level of teaching hasn’t changed. 

74 % of bachelor’s degree students and 88 % of master’s degree students were satisfied with teaching. 81 % of bachelor’s degree students and 93 % of master’s degree students were satisfied with their studies as a whole. 

Oamk will address all the given feedback during the spring. The results are also discussed in the degree program teams. Measures based on the results of the survey will be presented during the spring of 2021.
