Basic and Professional Studies											125
The aim of basic studies is to provide the student with a comprehensive overall view of the position and significance of the field concerned within society and working life and in an international perspective, to familiarise the student with the general theoretical basis of the field and with communications, and to provide the student with the sufficient language proficiency necessary for practising the profession and for further professional development. (Vararehtorin päätös 13.10.2016 § 16) The aim of professional studies is to familiarise the student with the main problems and applications in the professional field concerned and their scientific or artistic basis in order to allow the student to work independently in the field in either expert duties or development work, or as entrepreneur. Midwifery care promoting sexual and reproductive health											27
Show/hide description Professional Conduct of Nurse-Midwife 3 CR during the first semester. The aim of midwifery studies is that the student is able to act as a promoter of sexual and reproductive health. Ability to bring up and guide women and the family in sexual and reproductive health issues is also important. In addition, the student is able to conduct guidance, examination and care for a woman and a family during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium and is able to treat a newborn baby.

Studies Abroad
Show/hide description Extent on the basis of the student's personal study plan and recognition decision (e.g. 3-60 credits). The Finnish credits are equivalent to the ECTS credits. Learning outcomes, contents, assessment methods, learning activities and teaching methods (e.g. exercises and a written/an oral examination/assignment etc.) and literature according to the curriculum of the host institution. Students are expected to complete a Learning Agreement to be signed by themselves and by the head of the degree programme and the international co-ordinator of the home institution as well as by the representative(s) of the host institution. The Learning Agreement is an informal contract that indicates precisely what courses students will be studying. It should be completed well before students arrive at their host institution. Subsequent modifications to the Learning Agreement are permitted as long as they are agreed by all parties concerned. At the end of the study period abroad, the host institution will provide the exchange student as well as the sending institution with a Transcript of Records reporting the results obtained in the agreed programme of study. Full academic recognition will be given in the basic and professional studies for the studies completed abroad, as decided upon in the Learning Agreement. The studies will be recognised as an internal part of the curriculum. The grades obtained abroad will be changed to correspond to the Finnish grading scale 0-5. If the ECTS grading scale (European Credit Transfer System) is used, the ECTS grades correspond to the Finnish grades as follows: A = 5 (excellent), B = 4 (very good), C = 3 (good), D = 2 (satisfactory), E = 1 (sufficient), FX = hylätty (fail), F = hylätty (fail). If this module consists of several courses, the final grade is determined by the mathematical mean value of the grades.
