Description


O1032BA Methods of Molecular Biology, Gene Technology and Genetics (4 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequisites needed.
Objectives This course introduces the basic methods in molecular biology and genetics. Students are practising basic DNA-techniques and cell-culture methods in the laboratory.
Content Basics of gene technology: DNA-isolation, subcloning of DNA to the plasmid vector, PCR, electrophoresis of DNA and cell culturing. Isolation of chromosomes.

The student can explain the basic principles of cell culture and gene technology methods used in the practical course.

The student passes written exam (exercises 1-3).
The student has an approved learning diary on chromosome isolation work.
