ON00DK89 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Nursing and Family Nursing II (3 cr)
Prerequisites The student has done both: Mental Health and Substance Abuse Nursing and Family Nursing I and Mental Health Practical Training and Family Nursing Practical Training
Objectives First Part: Mental Health Nursing and Work with Substance Abuse

The student:

• knows the factors that contribute to the individual's mental health;
• can evaluate psychic space and functional ability as a patient and nurse's dialogue;
• is able to face and maintain therapeutic interaction with mental health, substance abuse, and a client in crisis.

Second Part: Family-centered Nursing of Children and Adolescents

The student

• is able to support and promote the welfare of the children and family;
• knows the meaning of illness, special needs, and the meaning of hospitalisation to children, adolescents, and their families;
• can plan, take care and evaluate evidence-based nursing; and
• can perform pediatric dosage calculations and can carry out safe medical treatment for children and adolescents.

Third Part: Nursing Care Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health

The student;

• knows the normal course and follow-up of pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium period, as well as the special features of care for newborns;
• can identify typical disorders related to pregnancy and recovery after childbirth as well as typical gynaecological diseases;
• can identify and bring up topics and themes related to sexual and reproductive health during different ages and life situations; and
• masters the professional language skills required at work and will be able to follow and understand the latest publications in the specific professional field.
Content • Mental Health Nursing and Work with Substance Abuse (1 ECTS)
• Family-centered Nursing of Children and Adolescent (1 ECTS)*
• Nursing Care Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health (1 ECTS)

*In the second part, the pediatric nursing part of the National Proficiency Test is evaluated as passed. This requires that the first course and the practical training in pediatric nursing have been successfully completed before the examination.
