Prerequisites | The previous training must have been successfully completed. |
Objectives | Part 1. LOCAL ANAESTHETICS IN ORAL HEALTH CARE 1,5 ECTS After the studies student demonstrates ability to take pharmaceuticals into consideration in her/his work with periodontal patients. The student is familiar with the methods of pain relief in oral health care and shows it within her work and written task. This part is only for Finnish students. Part 2.SUPERVISED CLINICAL PRACTICE 11,5 ECTS This practical training takes place in our dental clinic in Dentopolis. After the studies a student is able to perform the periodontal examination safely and reliably as well as plan, carry out and evaluate basic periodontal treatment and ensure necessary documentation with computer program / application used in our dental clinic under the supervision of tutoring teachers. The student demonstrates ability to perform her/his work according to evidence-based practice and previous theoretical studies of dentistry and dental hygiene. Some of patients are treated together with a student of dentistry, aiming to exercise sharing work and mutual documentation during studies. The student is familiar with the bleaching method used in our clinic after practiced using it with several patients. The student has taken part into workshops of local anesthesia, cariological and children´s check-ups, dental casts and the use of intraoral cameras and other equipment, e.g. DiagnoCam. This part is available also for exchange students (max. 6 ECTS). |
Content | Principals, exercises and other tasks concerning commonly used methods, materials and instruments in periodontal patient´s treatment, pain relief and other clinical practice like aesthetics as well as in orthodontics. |

pass/fail Grading scale pass/fail. Assessment of the course is based on the active participation and learning outcomes of the student. After this practical training the student - shows ability to assess patient´s need for periodontal treatment - utilizes and applies evidence based theory in her work - plans, carries out and evaluates patient´s treatment under supervision - evaluates the need of the suitable treatment method for each patient and uses both manual instruments and ultrasonic in a versatile and efficient way - follows and versatile utilizes recommended principles of ergonomics - has practiced how to use local anesthesia, perform cariological and child´s check-ups, take and prepare dental casts as well as use intraoral cameras and other equipment |
